My role is twofold to oversee the delivery of the curriculum in KS3 and KS4, to liaise with students, staff and parents to ensure that we deliver a quality education for all our students. When not on Ascension our home is the East End of London so most of my teaching has been in inner city schools. At the same time I am class teacher for Year 3 and 4 (also known as Middle One). ................................................... " Angela Yon - Teaching Assistant and Assistant Teacher (KS 1 & 2). I previously spent many years in the Middle East, my last two positions being Head of School at Jumeirah College, Dubai and Vice Principal & Head of Secondary School at Royal Dubai School. I have been a teaching assistant for the last 18 years, working in a large comprehensive (1400 pupils) and small schools such as this.

I moved to Ascension Island with my wife and 2 children and, although very different from our ‘old’ life, we really enjoy the natural beauty of the island and the opportunities it presents to us.

After teaching in the UK and Kuwait I first came to Ascension in 2009 to teach Middle 1 (Year 3 and 4). Our class sizes and exam success would be the envy of most schools around the world. Both my grandparents were prominent educationalists on St. Helena and they inspired me to pursue a teaching career. When I’m not being ‘Mrs Andrews’ to a group of enthusiastic and excitable learners, I am a mum, a wife and pet owner to an enthusiastic and excitable family. Students complete end of Key Stage tests as in the UK (excluding Scotland) and sit IGCSE or GCSE examinations in Year 10 and 11.

I am fortunate to work with a wonderful FS team and I thoroughly enjoy watching the children grow in confidence and look forward to helping them develop their independence. Information about the school: Two Boats School operates under the auspices of the Ascension Island Government (AIG) for the children of those who work on Ascension Island (the Island). This website and its content is subject to our Terms and

The development of appropriate procedures and the monitoring of good practice are the responsibilities of the Ascension Island Safeguarding Children Board.

Outside school there is so much to do. /Height 178 Square Although this is a state school maintained by the Ascension Island Government, it has many features of a British International School and membership of COBIS. Whether as prospective pupil, parent, member of staff or interested observer, I commend the work of Two Boats School to you.

I help support children across the whole school and teach some of the Middle 1 curriculum (mainly numeracy). I have achieved an A Level in Food and Nutrition and attended the School of Art & Design at the University of Hertfordshire where I was awarded A Diploma of Higher Education in Art & Design with a 2nd Class Honours Performance. 71% of pupils leaving in 2014 achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths, up from 56% in 2013 and 60% in 2012. I have been a teacher for over 35 years and in Two Boats School for over two years, but my career in the South Atlantic spans many more years than that! These were Two Boats School’s best results ever, and the best results in the South Atlantic by some distance, with very pleasing results at other key stages. I started out as a classroom assistant/ Nursery assistant, and then moved on to Nursery teacher (for 7 years). Both these posts provided opportunity to develop my management and leadership skills and focused primarily on Further and Community Education. My name is Angela Yon and I come from St Helena. /BitsPerComponent 8

Apart from the practical advantages, it promotes the I have been a member of St. Helena’s Teachers’ Association and at Prince Andrew School, St. Helena, have held positions such as Faculty Head of Aesthetics (1997 – 1998) where HE, Textiles, Art, Music, Drama, PE and Child Development were managed.

Other activities include Twirling, Craft and Chess Club.

I then went on to become a Teaching Assistant for the last 11 years the last 2 of which I have spent in Two Boats School.

Annalise Roberts - KS2 Teacher and Teaching Assistant. At Two Boats School, we make excellent provision for the educational needs of all children aged 3-16 on Ascension Island. During these years I trained to offer recovery and intervention programmes, developed arts and creative learning (a little like the creative curriculum the UK were going to be implementing) and even worked as an ‘artist in residence’ during my maternity leaves. However, I have always returned to the Early Years. We all made the move to Ascension Island in 2009 and I began teaching at Two Boats in January 2011. Ferne Clarke - Teaching Assistant (Secondary).

The other two pupils in the 2014 cohort achieved a range of A-G passes despite their profound special educational needs.

I also became familiar with the ASDAN program, offering the Gold Award to Key Stage 5 students. I am the Secondary English Teacher; I also teach Key Stage 4 Careers, and team teach PE to both key stages.

The school enjoys strong support from the island community and a parent group with the high expectations indicated by their decision to move here to work with their families. I have consulted with staff in my field of work and observed teaching strategies in the UK on two separate occasions with a focus on Food & Nutrition and Art. During my career with the Education Department on St. Helena, I was twice promoted – firstly as the Post School Coordinator (PSC) in 2001 and later as the Community Learning Coordinator (CLC) in 2007.

My career has gone from class teacher to Assistant Head Teacher and back again, working across most age groups including adult education. At various times I help with driving the mini bus and the school coach. My enthusiasm is for Art and Design so I take the groups for this area of the curriculum. The school follows the National Curriculum for England.

My interests are playing badminton, swimming, volleyball, netball, reading and camping. Hi, my name is Debbie Augustus and I have been living on Ascension Island for 18 years. w !1AQaq"2B #3Rbr Loretta Henry - Teaching Assistant (Year 5 and 6), Margaret McMullan - Teaching Assistant (Foundation Stage).

Two Boats School is situated in Two Boats Village on Ascension Island. I have worked with Polish pupils, teaching them English as an additional language, and with pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, some of whom could only communicate by signing. I specialise in Food Studies and Art & Design, teaching throughout Key Stages 3 and 4; and for the past 5 years, taught GCSE Child Development at Key Stage 4. Family time is extremely valuable, so when ever the opportunity arises a competitive game of scrabble is on the agenda.

The school population is subject to considerable flux.

Mrs Carolyn J Yon - Food and Nutrition, Art and Child Development.

I started at Two Boats School in 1987 returning with my family in 2008. Over the years, I have successfully taught Food & Nutrition, Art & Design and Child Development to GCSE level, where students have achieved A and A* grades in all three areas. I am also a scout leader, which I thoroughly enjoy. This is important in this age of instant information sharing, when ‘selfies’ and other photos can circulate round the world instantly.
