Its a lovely walk as you are very high up and have far reaching views of the sea, nearby villages and as far as Dartmoor. Lovely spot near Sidmouth, just a short walk from the car park on peak hill. The water mill dates back to these times, being mentioned in the Domesday Book. Mutters Moor at Sidmouth offers stunning views over the Otter Valley and Dartmoor. Try the Sid Valley walk from East Devon Council (3.75 miles). I led a group of nine ramblers around this walk on 24/4/18 and we all enjoyed it very much.
This allowed us to make a short diversion to Colaton Raleigh to enjoy a lunchtime beer at Otter Inn there. Much conservation work has been done in recent years, including a Fish Pass (just after Point 10) and otters are returning to this habitat. In the winter a slightly longer walk to the main road links with the regular Jurassic Coast bus services which will drop you in Sidford where you can stroll along the Byes back to Sidmouth. Walking | Otterton and Mutters Moor Circular walk | A pleasant circular walk that takes you along the coastal path, inland over heathland and then back along the river otter. In the summer months why not try following the coast path up Salcombe Hill and along to Weston Mouth? Going back further in time, Seven Stones (Point 18) is the site of a Bronze Age stone circle. Looking over Sidmouth from the East is Salcombe Hill. Otterton and Mutters Moor For more seasoned walkers this challenging 7-mile circular walk is worth the effort, covering the Jurassic coastline and East Devon countryside. There are well marked level paths with opportunities to explore wooded areas or splash around in the river on hot days. It was a pity that some of the better views were obscured by sea mist but we particularly enjoyed the section along the river back to our start point and bus back to Exmouth. For a more challenging walk there are circular routes for keen ramblers that take in Sidmouth, Otterton, the coast path and even venture as far as Budleigh Salterton and back. It takes in the lovely river Otter and the hard going but mystical Passaford Lane that takes you up onto Mutters Moor near Peak Hill Sidmouth. The route starts at Muttersmoor Car Park, before heading out along the South West Coast Path, and then turning inland through woods and moorland, passing through the quaint village of Otterton along the way.
