While the film can't escape some of the inevitable issues that always plague these episodic movies, its consistency makes it the best horror anthology to come out since Trick 'r Treat. But the point is that I really liked this movie, quite a bit honestly.
Southbound doesn't entirely avoid the jarring shifts common to anthology films, but thanks to some thrilling twists and turns, this horror road movie is a surprisingly smooth ride. Despite its occasional slack, Southbound is still tightly knotted where so many other films of its type are frayed at the seams. |, March 7, 2016 A powerful variation on the multi-story film. It doesn't bother me that much, since I can pretty much fill all of the blanks myself, the film isn't that far to figure out. Abstract and eerily incomplete, Southbound unfolds in a place where Marienbad heads south to the Twilight Zone and Dead End, and where moral failings collide with macabre consequences. Second, it has fascinating characters that are brought to vivid life, with remarkably few brush strokes, but without ever resorting to stereotype. There's something beautifully sandy and gritty about the majority of Southland's stories. Still, Southbound does deliver when raising signals of suspicion, atmospheric chills, head-scratching symbolism and a startling presence of isolation in the form of a stretched out highway presumably heading to the halls of hell. Fandango helps you go back to the movies with confidence and peace of mind. Verified reviews are considered more trustworthy by fellow moviegoers. Plus, and this might be the biggest reason why, I'm just a little too lazy. It's almost inevitable. Don't have an account?
and the Terms and Policies, Some are just better than others. It's not perfect and it's not even close to being better than Wild Tales, not necessarily a horror anthology, but an excellent anthology film nonetheless, but I would highly recommend this if you're a horror geek. And I definitely liked that approach, since it sort of made it feel like there's a bunch of small little stories that are all, somewhat, interconnected taking place in the same highway and surrounding areas. A ghoulish stretch of road that's worth revisiting again and again.
First, it has some genuinely new stories to tell. The City of the Future (A Cidade do Futuro), Fall TV First Look: Find Out What’s Coming, The Best Peacock Original Shows and Movies, All Upcoming Disney Movies: New Disney Live-Action, Animation, Pixar, Marvel, and More. Just below that it reads "Ticket Confirmation#:" followed by a 10-digit number. | Rating: 2.5/4 That's probably the reason why I won't review each segment individually, they're all interconnected in their own special way. Southbound is a rather interesting horror anthology with interweaving stories, at the end of a segment one of the characters passes the segment torch to a new character and the audience is smoothly carried along into a new segment, with the wraparound acting only as bookends to the entire anthology, instead of having a segment in between each act. I remember noting in my review of Ava's Possessions, a decent, if heavily flawed movie, that clever horror films, at least from the real inspired independent filmmakers in it, isn't really even that rare of a thing. It just didn't bother me since I was able to pretty much figure it out, or at least come up with my own theory, easily enough. Who is this girl? Sinners staring that road down to redemption. The flaws are obvious, as they are with every anthology film, there's the tonal shifts that are a little bit bothersome and there's certain inconsistencies in quality. Sign up here. Coming Soon. To me, all of the shorts are, at the very least, good. |, February 29, 2016 The film score is really fucking good and it perfectly helps set the mood. Southbound delivers more than its fair share of pulpy, grisly thrills with its quintet of creepy tales set on a suitably desolate stretch of highway.
