It’s a crowdsourced app, which means it gets a lot of its information from actual users. They offer real-time prices because they accumulate their data from recent credit card swipes.

In general, you earn a discount on the gas you buy. You have to search for it manually, but the information is, in fact, there. By far the best-known gas price app is GasBuddy. GasBuddy.com actually links your checking account to their app, and each time you fill up, you can use the app to save 5 cents per gallon, and 15 cents per gallon for your first fill-up only.
